Expert in computer games with the idea to change the Croatian school system. Incompatible? Not when it comes to Veljko Kukulj.
Before the social changes occurred once in several
generations, and there was no need for major changes in the
educational system. But today's internet, facebook, twitter
generations are educated in disproportion to what they are offered
outside the clasroom. Once they finish education at
least at least one social change is waiting for them.
Veljko Kukulj was convinced when he realized that the
game is basically a state of mind. That was the motivation for the
creation of computer games through which pupils learn. After
the first cult Croatian computer game Sraz, in the
development of his company 32-bit came Sunčica. The first
educational game on the Croatian market, designed for children aged
four to eight years. It covers all - the letters and numbers, the
universe and the EU. In Croatia Sunčica was sold in about 100,000
copies. The game is also the foundation of his
participation in the development and testing of computer science
curriculum in elementary schools.
Kukulj was co-producer of the animated film about Nikola Tesla,
the winner of the Comenius EduMeda Medallie (GPI, Berlin, 2009). He
is the author of Geanium - chronological system for
interactive visualization.
In his 18 minute speech at TEDxZG he'll try to answer the
hot educational issues: how to motivate students and teachers, how
to create a system that allows individual development and at the
same time universal standards, how to remove the education that
is it's own purpose and also to prevent the creation of
employers with no individuality.
